Ayanna Alexander retained her Olympic Development Triple Jump title on the final day of action of the 118th Penn Relays at Franklyn Field, Pennsylvania, USA yesterday. Alexander leapt to 13.96m to hold on to the gold medal she won last year. The 2010 Commonwealth runner-up improved a new season best. This country's national men's and women's sprint relay teams were narrowly edged out of medals. The men's squad of Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callendar and Richard Thompson clocked 39.03 to finished fourth missing the bronze by 0.05 seconds. T&T, the reigning Olympic silver medallists, finished behind USA Red (38.40) who captured heat two won overall and Jamaica (38.98) who were third quickest with USA Blue running the second fastest time in winning heat one in 38.47.
The women's team of Kai Selvon, Michelle Lee-Ahye, Reyare Thomas and Semoy Hackett combined to clock 44.07 seconds to just miss a top three spot as USA Red blazed to victory in a new Penn Relay record of 42.19 with arch-rivals Jamaica (43.31) and Jamaica (43.92) claiming silver an bronze. There was gold for Lalonde Gordon and Mikel Thomas on the penultimate day of action on Friday as the pair helped Zenith Velocity Athletic Club capture the Olympic Development Men's 4X100m relay.
Zenith clocked 40.31 seconds. Gordon was a member of the Zenith team which finished second last year in 40.57. Thomas then pushed Zenith to bronze in the men's Olympic Development Men's Shuttle hurdles 4X120 yards relay.
Kai Selvon failed to start in the College women 100m Championships finals. Zenith clocked 1:07.07 in the rarely run event to finish behind Greater Boston TC (1:02.08) and Shore AC National (1:06.05). Thomas missed out on a third medal taking fourth in the Olympic Development men's 110m hurdles in 14.18. The Zenith Velocity hurdler was going for a second win in the event after racing to gold in 2010. This year his club mate Carrington took the title instead in 13.96.
