T&T batsman Lendl Simmons continued his good form when he struck 127 to help Ceramic Merryboys gain first innings points over WC Wanderers in the eighth round of the T&T Cricket Board's Premiership Two Day Competition at St Mary's Ground St Clair yesterday. Playing in his second game since returning from a hand injury, Simmons outscored the entire Wanderers' line-up, who were dismissed for 112 batting first. Offspinner Javed Ramdhanie was the man behind the dramatic collapse, grabbing six for 32. In their reply, Merryboys got to 274 after Simmons and Jamaican Donovan Pagon (71) added 138 for the second wicket. Spinner Anthony Adams followed his ten-wicket haul against Clarke Road last week with four for 61 while Omesh Ramoutar (4-87) also played a part. Wanderers were six for one by the end of play, still trailing by 156.
Meanwhile at Wilson Road, centuries from Evin Lewis and Gregory Mahabir gave Powergen the upper hand over FC Clarke Road. Lewis (111), Mahabir (100 n.o.) and Rajendra Chandreka (54) each took a liking to the opposition bowling before Powergen finally declared on 370 for eight off 78 overs. Clarke Road then struggled in their turn at the crease, slumping to 80 for five by the close of play. At the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair, rain stopped play for three hours during the top of the table clash between leaders Moosai Sports and defending champs QPCC. In 54 overs, the hosts managed to reach 163 for two on the strength of captain Justin Guillen's 80 and Marlon Barclay's unbeaten 43.
