The University of T&T (UTT) took another convincing win, its second of the campaign, when it defeated Diego Martin All Stars 70-59, in the North Zone Basketball Commission's Men's First Division, on Sunday. It was the third fixture of a triple-header, played at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road. The match followed a Brian Chase Academy 53-47 triumph over Diego Martin All Stars in the Women's Division and a Second Division match which saw Barataria Sweaters defeat Caledonia Clippers, 76-60.
In the feature match-up, it was a strong display from UTT trio, captain Kern George, and forwards Jeffrey Harris and Kevon Noreiga, who sealed a comfortable win in the end for one of the standout teams in the recently concluded Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League. George again led the team, taking 18 points, followed by Harris and Noreiga, who netted 14 and 12 points, respectively for the winners. UTT led 27-21 at half time and further pressed forward to ensure a secure win in the end.
Earlier, Second Division Barataria Sweaters made light work of Caledonia Clippers' 'B' team, taking the match by 16 points. Kevin Nurse and Terrence Jones impressed with 21 points and 18 points, respectively, for the winners. Clippers' Marcus Hume and Joel Campbell could only bag 10 points apiece, in the team's loss. Super 10 Basketball League women's champion Brian Chase Academy (BCA) also recorded a relatively comfortable victory over Diego Martin All Stars. BCA, however, lost some momentum in the second half after leading 31-18 after the first two periods. N'neka Jones and Afeisha Noel were the best players for BCA, as they ended with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Diego Martin All Stars' talented forward Anika Nottingham took 16 points, while Samantha Wallace made 13.
