T&T Burglass, Jodhan finish 1-2 in Grenada triathlon

Despite facing extreme weather conditions, Salome Burglass and Jacqueline Jodhan secured a one-two finish for T&T at Grenada’s annual triathlon on Sunday at the Port Louis Marina. The 25th edition of the race, which was also used as the forum for the Caribbean Triathlon Championships, saw scores of triathletes brave the challenging course that comprised a 750m swim with a water start and a ladder exit, a five-lap 20k bike event and a two-lap 5k run. At the end of the gruelling race, it was Burglass who took first place ahead of fellow national veteran Jodhan, leaving third position for Bajan Christine Choy.  

 

Being two of the longest standing veteran Women’s triathletes in the Caribbean, Jodhan and Choy were extremely pleased with their performances, and were happy for the opportunity to use the event to gauge their fitness levels as they continue to gear up for upcoming competitions. Choy and Jodhan are well known on the Caribbean triathlon circuit and have been involved in administrative aspects of the sport. Choy has been on the Barbados triathlon executive for more than 25 years and is dedicated to developing the sport among adult and kids in Barbados and the Caribbean. 

 

Jodhan of recent has become more involved in the promotion and growth of Open Water swimming in T&T, with the immediate focus being on new sponsorship and increasing participation in open water masters swimming and supporting new and challenging events on the open-water calendar in the country which includes: the Kia Gasparee Swim; the Las Cuevas to Maracas Open Water Swim, which is carded for the last weekend next month; and the annual Cross Harbour Swim, carded for late September. Across the Caribbean, new events on the calendar also include the Blue Water Series, open water swims in Turks & Caicos and the Cayman Islands, and the popular Nevis to St Kitts race.
