Ayanna Alexander broke her own national women's triple jump outdoor record on the weekend leaping out to 14.14m in winning the event at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday. Alexander improved her previous mark of 13.96 set in 2009. The 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist opened her jumps with 13.52 and then followed up with 13.83 before reaching out to 14.08 in the third to add 12 cm to the old mark. One round later the reigning CAC senior champ reached out to 14.14m to improve the standard by 6cm. Alexander also surpassed the Olympic B standard of 14.10m.
The 29-year-old's efforts come after reports that she has not been receiving funding from the Elite Athletic Assistance Programme. National sprinter Emanuel Callendar scored his second win on the Brazil Athletic Touring taking 100m at the Urberlandia leg on Sunday. Callendar won in 10.16, again getting under the Olympic A standard of 10.18. The Olympic and World sprint relay silver medallist finished well ahead of the Brazilian pair of Diego Cavalvanti (10.34) and Sandro Viana(10.35).
