Alisha St Louis and Kevin Roberts emerged winners at the NAAA Combined events Championships at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva last weekend. St Louis captured the girls under-15 Heptathlon while Roberts was the boys under-18 Octathlon winner. St Louis of D’Abadie Progressive Athletic Club overwhelmed her competition winning the first six of the seven events which were contested over two days to score 3805 points. Rain Harper (Memphis Pioneers) was a distant second on 3010 points with St Louis’ younger sister, Aquila, in third (2974). The St Francois Girls College student led from the first event winning the 80m dash (10.54) followed with victories in the long jump (4.87), shot put (9.14), and high jump (1.50) to end the first day on 2396 points. Harper was well behind on 1933 ahead of Aquilla (1829). On the second day St Louis continued her winning ways taking the 60m hurdles (10.15) and the cricket ball throw (45.64). In the seventh and final 1000m run event, St Louis crossed in seventh (3:59.54) as her sister Aquilla won (3:57.52).
Roberts of Pt Fortin New Jets was also convincing in taking six of the eight disciplines of his octathlon to amass 5008 points. The 2012 Carifta representative beat Cougars’ Ashton Gill (4227) and Denzil Wilson of Neon Trackers (3209). Roberts was first in 100m (11.66), long jump (6.63), shot put (11.18) and was second in the 400m (52.68) to lead the first day on 2698. Gill trailed in second on 2210 with Daniel Elie of D’Abadie Progressive in third (1972). Wilson was back in seventh. Roberts continued his fine form on the second day securing the 110m hurdles (15.61), high jump (1.88) and javelin (37.60). The St Benedict’s College student took home the crown after his seventh place finish in the last event the 1000m (3:26.32). D’Abadie Progressive was the most successful club of the meet winning four individual titles as Avindale Smith (boys under-11 Tetrathlon), Brittany Thomas (girls under-13 Pentathlon) and Meriah Freeman (girls under-20 Pentathlon).
Smith scored 1845 in the four-event discipline to edge Ariel Kerr (Cougars), 1823, for the top spot. Kerr seemed headed for victory after taking the 60m and cricket ball throw relegating Smith to the runner up spot on both occasions but the D’Abadie Progressive lad came out on top after taking the 800m event, Kerr trailed way behind in 12th. Smith’s team-mate Josiah Hernandez was third (1609). Thomas scored 2499 points to take home the girls under-13 Pentathlon and had wins in the high jump and long jump events and second place finishes in the 60m and 800m events. Kerneka Waldron (Burnley) 2364 and Shaneece Francois (Neon Trackers) 2145 took the minor places. Freeman ran away with the girls under-20 Pentathlon. The two-time Carifta competitor dominated the contest taking three of the five events: the 100m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Cougars’ Jada Barker snatched silver (2602) with another D’Abadie Progressive athlete, Mekela Baptiste in third (1991). Toco TAFAC won two titles as Ayana Glasgow (girls under-18 Heptathlon-3758) and Kechel Douglas (women Heptathlon-3748) emerged champions.
