Queen's Park Cricket Club secured their second consecutive TTCB Premier Division title when they earned first innings points over Esmeralda in the tournament's final round at the Oval in St Clair yesterday. The lead put the Parkites beyond the reach of the second-placed Powergen, whom they lead by 22 points going into this weekend's last round. Batting first, Esmeralda were dismissed for 106 in 38 overs as offspinner Amit Jaggernauth (5–36) grabbed his second five-wicket haul in a row. In reply, Queen's Park reached 207 all out with Marlon Barclay (38), captain Justin Guillen (35) and Petrock Nicholas (31) all making useful contributions. Ricky Jaipaul proved a handful for the home team batsmen, taking five for 51. Meanwhile, former WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine snatched five for 55 in his first league appearance in seven years to help Alescon Comets stay in contention in their game against Powergen at Pierre Road.
Bowling 16 overs on the trot, the 36-year-old combined with fellow legspinner Imran Khan (3–14) to reduce Powergen to 116 all out, in reply to Comets' 96. Earlier in the day, Powergen legspinners Samuel Badree (3–20), Veerasammy Permaul (3–20) and Kavesh Kantasingh (2–21) had gotten the better of the Comets batsmen, among whom Suruj Ragoonath, another veteran, was the topscorer with 36. In other matches, Sean Siloch struck 94 to carry FCB Clarke Road past SIS Central Sports' first innings total at Invaders' Ground. Despite starts from Gary Mathurin (40), Varendra Maharaj (28) and Mahendra Nagamootoo (26), Central Sports (117 all out) failed to come to terms with an opposition attack including Mukesh Persard (3-31), Sanjiv Gooljar (3-40) and Deron Davis (2-20). By the end of play yesterday, Clarke Road had reached 165 for six in 57 overs in reply thanks to Siloch, who would have been disappointed to fall just six short of his hundred.
