Kenrick Russell, James Bristol, Robert Stevenson, Cheryll Reyes and Irma Riley each won five gold medals at the National Masters Track and Field Championships held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo earlier this month. Russell and Bristol captured the men's shot put, discus, hammer, javelin and weight throw events in the 65-69 and 55-59 categories respectively.
Stephenson sped to victories in the men's 70-74 100m and 200m and secured the high jump, shot put and javelin events. Among the women Reyes took the 60m, 100m, long jump, shot put and javelin in the 55-59 division, while Riley topped the field in the women's 70-74 long jump, shot put, discus, javelin and weight throw.
Joyce Thomas Monica Tang Wing and Irma Thomas and Terrance Skinner were quadruple winners. Joyce landed the 60m, shot put, discus and javelin titles among the 65-69. Tang Wing was unbeaten in the women's 75-79 60m, 100m, long jump and shot put while Irma was victorious in the 60-64 60m, 100m, long jump and javelin. Skinner was crowned champion in the men's 60-64 60m, 100m, 200m and long jump.
Double World Masters champion Gwendolyn Smith (women's 45-49: shot put, discus and javelin) and Geraldine George (women's 40-44: shot put, discus and javelin) were among the ten triple gold medallists at this year's World Indoor Championships in Finland earlier this year. George was crown world champion in the discus and javelin, while Smith took the same event in her age group.
Ali St Louis (men's 35-39:60m, 100m, 200m), Andi Montique (men's 40-44: 60m, 100m, 200), Wayne Franklyn (men's 45-49: shot put, discus and javelin), Eric Ramjit (men's 55-59: 800m, 1500m, 5000m), Herman Reyes (men's 65-69:100m, 200m, 400m), Winston Rudder (men's 70-74: 60m, long jump and discus), Candice Bekaroo (women's 40-44: 800m, 1500m, 5000m), Verna Edwards (women's 50-54: shot put, discus and weight throw) and Lucretia Burns (women's 55-59: discus, hammer and weight throw).
The top athletes will be vying for spots on the national team for the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Masters Championships, in St John, New Brunswuck, Canada from August 9-12.
