Caledonia Clippers rebounded from its recent loss to National Flour Mills in the North Zone Basketball Commission First Division, by crushing Pistons 92-51 at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, on Sunday evening. The attacking onslaught was masterminded by Kerwin Lares and Akil Paynter, who sank 25 and 20 points, respectively. Clippers absolutely dominated the match from the onset, and was easily on top of the match when it led 50-21 at the half. Pistons forward Andy Germain had a solid outing, as he finished on 21 points, but could not steer Pistons to a respectable scoreline.
There was a Second Division match also played on Saturday, with Raymond Reid edging Brian Chase Veterans 52-50. Both teams were evenly matched throughout, and the final score indicated that both teams scored exactly the same number of points in the second half, as they did in the first. Raymond Reid held the slightest of leads, 26-25 at the half, and mirrored its performance in the opening two periods to take the narrow win in the end. A day prior, Police won its first match of the Men's First Division campaign shunning San Juan Warriors 74-60. After losing its five previous fixture, Police, led by Randy Greenidge (18 points) and Phillip Alexander (13 points) maintained strong form from the first half, when it led 38-24.
Kory Leehood was the Warriors' top performer with 10 points. Courts Horizon, meanwhile, put on a strong showing in the Women's Division to ease past Defence Force 82-69. Joelisa Cooper, Annola Charles and Natalie Peters all performed well taking, 18, 17 and 14 points, respectively. Alicia Liverpool, rolled back the years with a solid performance, which saw her take 34 points, but her tally, unfortunately will likely be forgotten after the heavy loss for the "Army-coastguard combination" of women.
