For the first time in the history of domestic cricket three central teams have been demoted. Former powerhouses Alescon Comets, Preysal and Central Sports have all been demoted after a poor season in the top flight the Premiership cricket league. Alescon Comets will go to the North Championship in 2013, Central Sports will play in the Central Championship and Preysal will take part in the South Championship. Aranquez Sports club who won the North Championship this season, comes into the top flight, which they have played in before. Caldrac from Central also makes it big, as well as F&E Diamond United who won the South Championship by just one point over Valients.
In the Championship division two from the North will also be demoted to the North Zone and the North East Zone, while two from the Central will be demoted to the East Zone and the Central Zone and three from the South Championship will go to the South West Zone, South Zone and South East Zone. Diamond United who won the South Zone will be playing in the Premiership for the first time and president of the club Brian Julien says that one of the challenges will be finance. "It cost us about $100,000 to run the club during this successful season gone by and it would cost us a lot more when we play in the Premiership next season. Our sponsors Franklyn and Errol Electrical has been very kind to us in the past and we hope to continue our excellent relationship with them. "When you go into the top flight you need to spend more to better prepare your team and of course you might want to acquire the services of one or two big name players which will cost a lot. "However, we have worked very hard to get to this stage and we intend to do all that is necessary to stay there and be competitive."
