In-form javelin thrower Keshorn Walcott is one of two local junior athletes ranked in the top ten in the world on the latest IAAF World Outdoor Junior (under 20) rankings. Walcott is at number two in the men's javelin with his mighty 78.94 national men's open and junior record which he achieved in striking gold at the Quantum Invitational Classic at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on May 19. The 19-year-old Toco born thrower is behind the World Youth record holder Brian Toledo of Argentina (79.73). The two have top seven of the world's best throws for the year between them. Walcott is also at 39th on the men open rankings.
Kernesha Spann is at eighth in the women's 400m hurdles following her pb clocking of 58.61 at the Falcons Games on March 31. The 2011 World Youth semifinalist captured silver in the event at the Carifta Games in Bermuda in April. Machel Cedenio is at 15th in the men's 400m after he sped to a pb of 46.73 in claiming to boys under 20 one lap title at the Quantum Classic. The 2011 double Carifta champion lowering his previous best of 46.89 which he set in taking fourth place one lap finals at last year's World Youth Championships. Jereem Richards lies at 36th with 47.17 (pb) clocking which he set in finishing second to Cedenio at the Carifta Trials in March. Richards was a member of this country's World Indoor men's 4X400m relay team.
