One­to­keep lived up to his name yes­ter­day by tak­ing the sec­ond leg of lo­cal rac­ing's "Triple Crown", the Carib Brew­ery Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic, over 1,900 me­tres, on a slop­py main track at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma, yes­ter­day. In front of a large hol­i­day crowd, the John O'Brien trained chest­nut geld­ing was well rid­den by for­mer cham­pi­on Bri­an Hard­ing and showed guts and de­ter­mi­na­tion to land the $270,000 first prize cheque.

Pun­ters were right on tar­get when they made One­to­keep the 3/2 favourite. When the 12-horse field was sent on their way Taste of Texas was first to show from One­to­keep and One fortheroad. Track­ing these came Raise Your Glass, Di­rec­tor Dream, Band­wag­on and Pis­tons and Rings. It Got To Be Me and Net­toy­er was nexr with Un­ques­tion­able and the Big Squeeze, Net­toy­er and Big Thing. Go­ing down the back Raise Your Glass was sent to the front Taste of Texas as Hard­ing asked One­to­keep to take clos­er or­der as Di­rec­tor Dream stayed in touch, as Un­ques­tion­able came un­der pres­sure.

At the far turm, One­to­keep was sent on from Di­rec­tor Dream as Taste of Texas was rel­e­gat­ed to third with as Big Thing un­der No­bel Abrego be­gan his run at the lead­ers. At the cor­ner, One­to­keep held sway from Di­rec­tor Dream as Big Thing looked the like­ly win­ner as he made eye-catch­ing progress to the leader. With 200 me­tres left, One­to­keep was joined by Big Thing and the large crowd at hand at Ari­ma shout­ed their ap­proval but the Mary Ca­ma­cho owned geld­ing re­spond­ed to pres­sure, to put away his ri­val by a length. One­to­keep reg­is­tered the time of 2:04.1 for the trip with Big Thing in sec­ond and The Big Squeeze which came with a flour­ish late third and Di­rec­tor Dream in fourth po­si­tion. In the Carib San­ta Rosa Dash, Bruceon­th­eloose put his ri­vals in their place, by win­ning com­fort­ably by 1 1/4 lengths. The Tres Ami­gos owned horse dis­missed sta­ble­mate Ig­ni­tion Coil to win at even mon­ey. Sa­cred Trust was third and Sig­nal Alert, fourth. Bruceon­th­eloose record­ed the time of 1:10.1 for the trip un­der No­bel Abrego.
