Mc Leod breaks 50m breast mark

London Olympic Games hopeful Abraham Mc Leod of Atlantis Aquatics, broke the National Open record in the 50m breaststroke on the third day of the Amateur Swimming Association’s Long Course Championship at Marlins Pool, Westmoorings on Saturday night. Mc Leod touched the wall in 28.44 seconds in the preliminary rounds to erase Blue Dolphins’ Napoleon Howell’s 28.73 which was set at the Charlotte Ultraswim Grand Prix two weeks ago. Mc Leod’s confidence would have been boosted as he is hoping to qualify in the 100m breaststroke for London 2012 which was contested yesterday, the last day of competition.
 
 
Also on Saturday, in the finals of the girls’ 11 and Over 200m freestyle, sisters Syriah David (2:17.38 minutes) and Shania David (2:21.86) of Tidal Wave Aquatics were one-two, with Rochelle Pierre of the University of T&T, third place in 2:24.95. Mark Alexis of UTT touched the wall in 2:07.41 ahead of Joshua Ramkissoon (Titans) 2:11.12 and Julian Kaufman (Blue Dolphins) 2:11.59 in the A final while Jivan Chee Foon clocked 2:09.70 in the B-final of the boys’ equivalent. Titans swimmer Amira Pilgrim (30.99) was first in the finals of the 11 & Over 50m butterfly, with Jessica Gay (31.63) of Blue Dolphins and Syriah David (31.68) second and third respectively. Cadell Lyons of Petrotrin Barracudas touched the wall in 25.87 and he was followed by Kareem Baptiste (UTT) in 26.64 and Eagles’ Josiah Morales (27.21) in the boys’  equivalent.   
 
 
The finals of the 11 and Over girls 50M breaststroke saw Rejan Chin triumph in 37.03 by barely out-touching Johnnya Ferdinand of Titans into second as she stopped the clock in 37.04. Jessica Gay of Marlins was third in 37.27. Howell (28.47) won the boys’ equivalent with Abraham Mc Leod second in 28.61 and Jonathan Cabral of Marlins,  third in 31.87. The David-sisters, Syriah and Shania David clocked 5:40.29 and 5:57.63 in the finals of the 11 and Over 400m individual medley, with Theana Hay (Titans) finishing third in 6:01.10. On the boys’ side Jabari Baptiste (Marlins) won in 5:07.88 with Jeron O’Brien (TWA) second and Joshua Gonzales (Marlins) third in 5:35.17. At the end of day three Tidal Wave Aquatics  led the  scores with 49 points, followed by Marlins SC (38 points) and Titans SC (17 points).
