West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels continued his climb up the ICC Test batting rankings following his knock of 76 against England at Edgbaston over the weekend. Samuels's innings took him up two places to 33rd, a career best, while his 386 runs at 96.50 over the three Tests boosted him a total of 30 spots since the beginning of the series. Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin also enjoyed a spike, moving from 88th to 68th on the strength of his unbeaten 107, while Tino Best (95), who had not played a Test match in three years, re-entered the rankings on 115th.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul remained the number one batsman in the format despite missing the Test with an injury. With 856 points, he leads South Africans AB de Villiers (821) and Jacques Kallis (819), Pakistan's Younis Khan (797) and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara (779). Among the other West Indies batsmen, Darren Bravo (6) fell two spots to 24th, Adrian Barath (41) moved five places to 69th, Kieran Powell (24) went from 99th to 94th and Narsingh Deonarine (7) fell seven places to 75th. There was little movement among the bowlers with Ravi Rampaul (1–55) going up one spot to 39th and Darren Sammy (1–22) staying in 25th. Best (2–37) also re-entered the bowling rankings on 115th. Kemar Roach, who missed the match, remained the team's highest rated bowler on 17th. The top five is occupied by South African Dale Steyn (886), Pakistani Saeed Ajmal (835), England's James Anderson (785), Sri Lankan Rangana Herath (769) and Steyn's teammate Vernon Philander (764).
