Fatima College and Holy Name Convent (PoS) captured the T&T Hockey Board Under-15 Tournament titles when the series was contested at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, on June 7. Fatima, led by its captain Marcus Pascall who was voted as the “Most Valuable Player,” played unbeaten against Queen’s Royal College (QRC) and Northgate College in their three-team two-round round-robin series. The Mucurapo Road school blanked Northgate 2-0 and drew with QRC 1-1 while in the second round it thrashed Northgate 4-0 and QRC 3-0 to end with ten points from a possible 12. Northgate which whipped QRC 3-1 and 4-1 in its other matches took second spot with seven points while the Royalians, as QRC are known, ended with a meagre point.
Despite losing out to Fatima for the title, Northgate’s Nick Pascall and Daniel Byer (five goals) collected the “Most Promising Player” and “Most Goals” award respectively. Holy Name Convent (Port-of-Spain) was much more dominant in the girls event as they won four of their six matches played and drew the others to end with 14 points, seven clear of rival, St Joseph Convent (PoS). Led by the tournament’s top goalscorer, Brianna Govia, Holy Name had wins over Providence Girls (2-0), Arima Central Secondary (2-0 & 1-0), and St Joseph Convent (PoS), by a 1-0 scoreline. The drawn results were 1-1 deadlocks, first with St Joseph Convent (PoS) and then, Providence.
