For­mer na­tion­al play­er Raphael Govia fired in a beaver-trick to lead Queen's Park in a 7-1 drub­bing of Coro­na Fa­ti­ma and with­in a win of re­peat­ing as T&T Hock­ey Board Mixed Vet­er­ans Di­vi­sion cham­pi­ons. Govia opened the scor­ing at the Na­tion­al Hock­ey Cen­tre, Tacarigua on Wednes­day night af­ter on­ly two min­utes while Gary Grif­fith made it 2-0 in the tenth minute. Three min­utes be­fore the in­ter­val, Derek Lee pulled a goal back for Fa­ti­ma, how­ev­er in the sec­ond-half, the Parkites went on the ram­page with five un-an­swered goals.

Azad Ali made it 3-1 in the 40th while Govia (47th, 55th, 65th) and Grif­fith with his sec­ond in the 51st minute all found the tar­get to com­plete a com­pre­hen­sive 7-1 blowout which car­ried their points tal­ly to 30 from 11 match­es, six more than Notre Dame which has on­ly one match left to com­plete its 14-match cam­paign.

The Parkites now need on­ly a win from their last three match­es to se­cure the crown as on­ly fourth third place De­fence Force with 19 points from ten match­es could sur­pass its cur­rent point tal­ly should it win all its re­main­ing match­es and the ta­ble leader lose its re­main­ing fix­tures. On Tues­day, Scott Dop­son scored a hat-trick (2nd, 26th, 54th) and Sel­wyn King, the oth­er in the fourth minute for the Dames ina 4-0 shut-out of Po­lice. To­day, the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion will take cen­tre stage with two match­es from 6.30 pm. In the open­er, De­fence Force and Shandy Carib Mag­no­lias women face off while De­fence Force and Notre Dame men meet from 8 pm.
