After a decent run of form, National Flour Mills (NFM) dropped two consecutive losses after the team was edged 88-87 by the University of T&T (UTT), in the North Zone Basketball Commission (NZBC) First Division, on Thursday. The match took place at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, only two days after Straker Nets crushed the same team 81-54. Point-guards Jeffrey Harris and Kevon Noreiga sank 22 and 20 points, respectively, in an important win for the University. UTT replied from a one-point half-time deficit (41-40) to gain strong attacking momentum, which would eventually see them past an improving NFM team. Flour Mills was led by its in-form forward Kerry McMillan who sealed 21 points. Veteran forward Kwesi Julien follwed up with 18 points for the losing team.
The match was followed by a Second Division match between Macoya Forum and Blink Trailblazers, a match in which the former won 61-56. Forum also recorded a comeback win after trailing 28-27 at the half. The winning team only had two player score double digits: Delano Ribeiro and Kareem Walker, who took 13 and 12 points, respectively. Solid, young forward Juvani Andrews led all scorers in the match with 17 points. Four more matches are scheduled to take place today at the same venue. Hawks will challenge Millennium in Under-19 action starting from 3 pm, followed by a Women's Divison match between Defence Force and Diego Martin All Stars. At 6:30 pm, Mt Hope Spurs will tackle Blink Trailblazers, before the concluding Men's First Division fixture between Police and Diego Martin All Stars.
