T&T’s Njisane Phillip pulled out of the Keirin event at the ProCycling US Grand Prix of Sprinting at the Colorado Springs Velodrome on Friday but was scheduled to enter the Match Sprint last night. Phillip won both events during last year’s meet and set a new track record (9.91) in the Match Sprint in the process. For his efforts, he was named Most Outstanding Male Cyclist. On Friday night, his teammate Haseem McLean was able to make the Keirin final though Justin Roberts and Quincy Alexander were eliminated in the opening stage.

Last night, the Men’s Sprint began with its qualifiers and 1/8 final while the quarterfinal, semifinal and final will be contested tonight. The meet has attracted a field of 39 cyclists from ten countries including the hosts, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Haiti, Scotland, Suriname, Colombia and Venezuela. The main competition is expected to come from Germany, whose team will include four time Olympic medallist Stefan Nimke and five-time European champion Maximillan Levy.
