Petrotrin defeated Carib Bears by five wickets on Friday night and has booked a place in the title match of the TTCB Poweplay Franchise tournament against Angostura White Oak today at 2.30pm at the Queen's Park Oval. Earlier on Friday, Angostura got the better of Trini Posse by eight runs in the opening game and later on in the night Petrotrin was able to overcome Carib Bears total of 123 all out, reaching 127 for five to battle for the first prize of $30,000.
After restricting, Petrotrin lost opener Mario Belcon for a "duck" and the Carib Girls were in their element in the stands. However, their joy was short-lived as left handed opener Evin Lewis and the veteran Lincoln Roberts added 71 runs for the second wicket; that took the match away from the Champ Fleurs team. Lewis was particularly severe on anything off line and length and smashed his way to 52 off 38 balls with four fours.
Roberts played a more matured hand, striking 18 off 26 deliveries with one six. When both batsmen fell, the writing was on the wall and Yannick Ottley with an unbeaten 24 off 22 balls and Daron Cruickshank with 12 not out off eight balls brought it home. Scores: Carib Bears 123 all out (20ovs)(Adrian Barath 46, Imran Khan 23, Nikita Miller 13, Kevin Stoute 4/29) vs Petrotrin 127 for five (18.4ovs)(Evin Lewis 52, Yannick Ottley 24no, Lincoln Roberts 18, Daron Cruickshank 12no, Imran Khan 3/23, Nikita Miller 2/19). Result: Petrotrin won by 5 wkts.
