A del­e­ga­tion of 25 burgess­es from the bor­ough of Ch­agua­nas would be fly­ing to Mi­a­mi this week­end to sup­port the West In­dies team when they come up against New Zealand at two Twen­ty20 in­ter­na­tion­als in Flori­da. The match­es will be played at the Cen­tral Broward Re­gion­al Park Crick­et Sta­di­um at Lauder­hill on June 30 and Ju­ly 1. The sta­di­um is the on­ly ICC-ap­proved crick­et venue in North Amer­i­ca. Lead­ing the del­e­ga­tion from Ch­agua­nas are May­or Or­lan­do Nages­sar and Deputy May­or Gopaul Bood­han. The deputy may­or said the move was part of the twin­ning pro­gramme that the bor­ough start­ed last year with the city of Lauder­hill. Bood­han said the game was a his­toric one and a team of busi­ness peo­ple, artistes, crick­et ad­min­is­tra­tors and sup­port­ers would head to Mi­a­mi to lend their sup­port. Bood­han said in 2001 ad­min­is­tra­tors from Lauder­hill came to the bor­ough of Ch­agua­nas seek­ing tech­ni­cal ad­vice be­fore they start­ed the con­struc­tion of the crick­et fa­cil­i­ty in Mi­a­mi.

He said the bor­ough would al­so be dis­cussing arrange­ment to take youth crick­eters and foot­ballers to Lauder­hill on an ex­change pro­gramme. Bood­han said Bryan Layne, the head of the Cen­tral Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion would be mak­ing the trip and pre­sent­ing some pro­pos­als to Richard Ka­plan, the may­or of Lauder­hill to take a youth foot­ball team to Lauder­hill. Bood­han said every­one mak­ing the trip ,was pay­ing for their air­fare, ho­tel and crick­et tick­ets out of their own pock­ets. Bood­han said he ex­pects to see a packed sta­di­um for the T20 based on the large West In­di­an pop­u­la­tion liv­ing in Broward Coun­ty. Bood­han leaves to­day while Nages­sar flies out on Fri­day.
