The Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA), The University of the West Indies (UWI), Eastern Emancipation Committee and the Afro-Caribbean Drummers Association will host the second Biddeau Drum Festival, to promote and build upon the contribution to the cultural heritage of T&T made by the Biddeau family, in particular, Andrew and Jeffrey Biddeau. The Biddeau Drum Festival will comprise three distinct events: The Saraka Drumming Workshops scheduled on July 15, 22 and 29.
The second event, the Saraka Feast, which is the annual ancestral celebrations of the Biddeau clan, will be hosted from July 31 to August 1. The final event, the Drum Symposium themed Honouring our Ancestors, will be held on August 4 at the Open Campus auditorium, Gordon Street, St Augustine. Papers will be presented on the instrument and its significance in Africa and the African diaspora.
