Shanelle Nand­lal and Stephan Whar­wood were crowned Male and Fe­male Crick­eters of The Year at the 2012 Pow­er­gen Sec­ondary Schools Crick­et League Awards Cer­e­mo­ny which took place at the Cas­ca­dia Con­fer­ence Hall, Cas­ca­dia Ho­tel St. Ann's yes­ter­day. Nand­lal has been in­stru­men­tal in Na­pari­ma Girls' suc­cess­es for the past five years hav­ing been able to mix her aca­d­e­mics and crick­et­ing skills as the per­fect match.

Nand­lal was vot­ed Play­er of the Match at the -Daren Gan­ga In­ter­Col T20 fi­nal where Na­pari­ma Girls de­feat­ed Point Fortin West by 44-runs. Nand­lal al­so topped the girls bat­ting av­er­age in the tour­na­ment. Whar­wood, who guid­ed his Trin­i­ty Col­lege East team to pro­mo­tion to the prim­mer di­vi­sion, scored over 300 runs from eight in­nings with and av­er­age over 65. He scored one cen­tu­ry and four half cen­turies ( 116, 70 not out, 54, 67 and 57). Whar­wood took the most wick­ets for his team and is present­ly train­ing with the T&T un­der 19 team. Oth­er nom­i­nees for the top award were-- Shan­ice Pas­cal (Ari­ma North Sec­ondary), Kedisha Ben­i­to (To­co Sec­ondary) , Rose­mary Sama­roo (Cunu­pia Sec­ondary) , Shanelle Nand­lal (Na­pari­ma Girls) and Rosh­ni Ramkissoon (Point Fortin West) .

In the men's cat­e­go­ry the nom­i­nees were -- Stephan Whar­wood (Trin­i­ty East) , Ewart Nichol­son, Adri­an Gee­ban (El Do­ra­do East), Savion Lara Barataria (South Sec­ondary). Team of the year Trin­i­ty East Sec­ondary claimed the na­tion­al ti­tle in the boys un­der 14 di­vi­sion. Fa­ti­ma Col­lege to­geth­er with Shi­va Boys claimed the boys un­der 16 di­vi­sion ti­tle and Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege San Fer­nan­do and Cowen Hamil­ton Sec­ondary both claimed the boys un­der 19 ti­tle. Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion who rep­re­sent­ed T&T at the se­nior na­tion­al lev­el, urged the young crick­eters to bal­ance their sports and aca­d­e­mics, but its dis­ci­pline which will be the key in mov­ing for­ward.

De­liv­er­ing the fea­ture ad­dress was West In­dies Crick­et Board (WICB) di­rec­tor Bal­dath Ma­habir, who al­so spoke about the im­por­tance of a good ed­u­ca­tion "What a sol­id fun­da­tion of a good ed­u­ca­tion gives you? You'll are part of the ed­u­ca­tion sys­tem of Trinidad and To­ba­go, you'll look at us old­er fokes and think we just cramp­ing your style we talk to you about study­ing hard and do­ing stuff in school per­haps we didn't do. Well you're the young lead­ers of tom­morow al­so, you need to know your are the old­er fokes of tom­morw we have messed up the world when you think of the prob­lems you have in­her­at­ed with ed­u­ca­tion ,ex­pences and gol­bal warm­ing. You need to re­al­ize that life is what what you make it . There are some things you will lose in life, you may lose par­ents and friends but you could nev­er lose to knowl­edge that you have gained a good ed­u­ca­tion, a good ed­u­ca­tion is a friend for life.
