Former national stand-out Raphael Govia scored a second-half brace to lead Queen’s Park Cricket Club (Hockey Team) to a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Malvern and with it the Mixed Veterans title in the T&T Hockey Board 2012 season. Going into its match on Tuesday night, at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, the Parkites needed a win to ensure itself of the title while Malvern was out to play spoilers. Malvern stunned the Parkites by taking a fifth minute lead through Peter Edwards which it took into the half. However, six minutes after the resumption, Gary Chin drew the Parkites level before Govia fired them ahead in then 49th minute and then added an insurance item six minutes later to complete the 3-1 triumph. With the win, Parkites improved to an unassailable 34 points from 13 matches, 11 ahead of second placed Defence Force while Notre Dame is a further point behind.
On Monday, Defence Force, which was hoping for a Malvern upset of Queen’s Park, eked out a 1-0 win over Petrotrin with Kirth Davis the scorer. Also on Monday, Robert Ramsammy banged in a hat-trick to lead Carib to a 7-1 thrashing of Corona Fatima in the night’s first match. Ramsammy scored in the 35th, 54th and 61st minutes while Samuel Carty (19th), Hillary St Louis (21st), Ian Chong (46th) and Ronald Ramsammy (63rd) added one each. For Fatima, Derek Lee got its lone item in the 40th minute.
Clifrine Evans and Betrand Duncan scored for Police in its first win, 2-1, over Petrotrin in the Mixed Veterans on Wednesday night to move off the base of the table.
