2011 girls' champions Reba Fleary (under-19) and Kristi Reno-Singh (under-17) will battle it out on the Central Regional Indoor Sporting Arena courts when the Solo Badminton Juniors Open Tournament serves off today from 9 am. Approximately 100 juniors from various badminton clubs nationwide are expected to put their "best arm forward" in the junior tournament which ends tomorrow. Fleary, the 2011 First Citizens Sports Foundation Youth Awards girls' badminton nominee, and Reno-Singh, who impressively captured six titles at the 2011 T&T Badminton Association's (T&TBA) Junior Tournament, are among the top seeds in the girls' competitors. The two are expected to clash in the under-19 category.
2011 under-19 champ Matthaus Wilford and Jason Ramjass are the number one and two seeds respectively for the boys' under-19 category. Reno-Singh will have a big day ahead of her as she will be also taking a shot at the under-17 title. Ashisha Persad will be her most formidable competitor as she is seeded at number two. Also hoping to achieve double honours are Rivaj Seenath (2011 national under-17 champ) and Leon Cassie (2011 national under-13 champ). eenath will enter as the boys' top seed in the under-15 and under-17 categories, while Cassie is seeded first in the under-13 and second to Seenath in the under-15. In the girls' under-15 division, all eyes will be on top seeds Jada Renales (2011 national champ) and Tiffany Rampersad.
