Technocrats made a successful defence of the women's title with a three sets win over Glamorgan when the curtain came down on the third annual Mark Daly Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Sunday night.
In the women's decider, a best of five sets contest, Technocrats powered past Glamorgan 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 to collect the winner-take-all $6,000 first place cheque. It was also sweet revenge for Technocrats A who were beaten by Glamorgan in the round-robin group stages, which was played to 15 points on Saturday, 10-15, 15-14, 15-11. Earlier on in the semifinal round, Technocrats 'A' defeated Southern United Volleyball Academy 25-7, 25-10 and Glamorgan stopped Big South East Port-of-Spain, 25-15, 25-17 in the two best of three sets matches.
Southern United took third spot, 25-11, 25-11 over SEPoS. In the men's Open, a new champion was crowned when Southern United battled past SEPoS 25-19, 25-13, 14-25, 25-21 for the $6,000 top prize. Southern United reached the title match after ousting the previously unbeaten Toco Youth Volleyball Academy 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 while SEPoS stunned last year's winner and another team which was unbeaten, Glamorgan 25-19, 25-19. On Saturday night in the quarterfinals, Southern United defeated Technocrats A, SEPoS booted Barbadian club Deacons 26-24, 23-25, 17-15; Glamorgan defeated Zenith A 25-22, 25-16 and Toco Youths booted Technocrats B, 25-14, 25-18.
