Moe: Critics motivated Caledonia
Jerry Moe, the long serving assistant coach of Neal & Massy Caledonia said the club’s critics played a part in inspiring the team to its successes this season. The Morvant/Laventille-based club capped off a historic 2011/2012 season by lifting its first ever Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship title last month with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over four-time winner and fellow T&T Pro League club W Connection at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Now the club asks for it in return. This after Caledonia blanked US Soccer League (USL) club Antigua Barracuda 2-0 and W Connection trashed North American Soccer League club and two-time defending CFU Club champs Puerto Rico Islanders 4-1 in the semifinal round. Caledonia now joins US Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Seattle Sounders and Honduran club, CD Marathon in a first round Concacaf Champions League group while W Connection faces top Mexican side Chivas de Guadalajara and Guatemala’s Xelaju. Islanders, which defeated Antigua Barracuda 2-0 for third spot, will play LA Galaxy of the MLS and El Salvador’s Isidro Metapan.
