National senior table-tennis team newcomers, Arun Roopnarine and Brittany continued their rich vein of form by capturing the Ministry of Sports Youth Festival titles at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua, on Saturday. In the boys’ Under-20 final, the 14-year-old  Roopnarine swept past Davone Joseph 11-3, 11-3, 11-6. This after Roopnarine beat David Gilkes 11-0, 11-4, 11-5 and Joseph ousted Yasin Siddiq Ramsingh 9-11, 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 in the semifinals.

Ramsingh had some redemption thought, beating Gilkes 11-7, 8-11, 3-11, 15-13, 11-6 for third. Joseph, 14, who last month won the national women’s singles title had much more of a fight in the girls Under-20 decider before she secured an 11-6, 11-4, 5-11, 6-11, 11-9 victory over fellow senior national women’s team player Ashley Quashie.

In the semifinals, Joseph stopped Renuka Sitram 11-9, 11-3, 12-10 and Quashie beat Ambika Sitram 8-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6. And in the third place match, encounter overwhelmed Renuka 11-8, 11-7, 3-11, 11-9. Both Roopnarine and Joseph represent T&T at the 54th  Senior Caribbean Table-Tennis Federation Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from August 22 to 26 as debutants as well as the Under-21 Division and on the World Junior Circuit Tour in El Salvador from August 9 to 16.
