T&T’s top squash player Colin Ramasra rebounded from a semifinal exit of the recently-concluded national championships to take the 2012 St Lucia Open in style, defeating the UK’s top seeded Matthew Schonfrucht in three straight sets in the final on Saturday. Ramasra had an incredible campaign, all the way through to the final, dropping not a single set in his efforts. He began by dropping St Lucian local Carlos Segovia 11/8, 11/4, 11/2, then Cameron Moffat 11/2, 11/5, 11/2, before whipping the island’s number one player Charlie Son Son 11/5, 11/5, 11/6. Ramasra advanced to the quarterfinal and faced Ollie Gobat who gave the T&T player his toughest test.

The St Lucian efforts were in vain as, again, Ramasra went on to win three straight sets, 11/8, 11/5, 15/13. In the opening semifinal, the eventual finalist Schonsrucht took four sets to defeat  Vincentian Kevin Bailey 11/6, 8/11, 11/6 14/12. Ramasra again entered the second knockout match and played a confident but controlled match, where he made his semifinal opponent in another St Vincent player James Bentick do most of the running. Ramasra defeated Bentick 11/7, 11/8, 11/4 for a spot in the final, which he made look easy. The T&T favourite remained in complete control, especially in the first set, as he handed Schonfrucht a 11/2 thrashing, before flourishing to take the second two sets 11/4, 11/6, with little effort.
