Toussaint salvages late point for Joe Public

League debutant 1st FC Santa Rosa was just moments away from securing a third consecutive victory in the blink/bmobile National Super League, had it not been for a late set-piece strike from reigning champions Joe Public’s Andre Toussaint, which gave both teams a share of the spoils at 1-1, on Sunday. The match, which was played at Joe Public’s home ground, the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, had been determined, from all indications, by a 67th minute penalty from Santa Rosa skipper Jovan Rochford, following a handball in the area. However, the home team’s midfield maestro, Toussaint had other ideas as he capitalised on a free-kick just outside the penalty box to level the score in the dying moments.

 

 

The point was enough to see Joe Public return to the top of the standings after momentarily having its position overtaken by high-fliers Westside Superstarz, which defeated Stokely Vale 3-2 in an earlier encounter.  Joe Public and Westside share lead in the 12-team standings on 13 points. Both WASA and Real Maracas suffered defeats which would have seen them join the pair on top. WASA suffered a 2-3 loss to Eagles United in a thriller which saw the latter team rebound from a 2-1 deficit. As a result, Eagles soared into second on 10 points, with WASA and Maracas.
