Solid rounds for Lawrence, Jackree at Fairhaven

T&T’s Dinesh Jackree and Ysabelle Lawrence each played solid rounds to place on the upper half of the 122-player leaderboard as action came to a close on the second day of the British Junior Open Championship at the Fairhaven Golf Club in Lancashire, England yesterday. Jackree followed up his first day 83 with an 86 on the Par 74 course to join three others for 48th place with 169. Lawrence meanwhile shared the 57th spot with two others on 175 (88 + 87). Japan’s Asuka Kashiwabara (135) continued to dominate, adding 69 yesterday to comfortably lead England’s Gabriella Cowley (74+72=146) and Malaysian Khai Jei Low (76+72 = 148), who are in second and third respectively.

 

After an exciting opening ceremony on Sunday with defending British Open Cup champion Daren Clarke and an opportunity to lift the Claret Jug, the juniors were out early on Monday morning to face a course that would be different to the practice round.  Both Jackree and Lawrence settled in to face the additional challenges of wind and rain. Roughs and bunkers called for precise course management and an adjustment in putting speed as the greens played much slower with the rain than yesterday. Dinesh brought in 40 and 42 to finish the day at +8 while Ysabelle brought in 41 and 47 to finish at +14. The day's best score was 8 under 66 by Kashiwabara of Japan.  Both players are in good spirits and feel quite comfortable with the conditions on the course.
