Ambassador Daren Ganga will give a motivational speech to more than 150 graduates at the Ministry of Sport’s National Sport School Programme’s closing ceremony tomorrow at the Presto Praesto Youth Development and Apprenticeship Centre (YDAC), Freeport from 10 am.  This year was the 15th edition of the programme which started on July 8. Among the graduates is the Ministry’s “Schoolaz” basketball team. The team will be travelling to Venezuela next month to defend its title at the Roman Perez International Basketball Tournament. The programme continues to be a great success as over the years many deserving young athletes, who are making a significant contribution to society, have been recognised and rewarded for their achievements.

Sport School exposed athletes to specialised training and personal development which enabled them to experience a positive learning environment and foster team work and community-type support among youth. Other goals included providing an avenue for the development of sportsmanship, friendship and togetherness, as well as creating an atmosphere appropriate for motivating and encouraging youth to achieve their greatest potential. The programme was held at seven venues and provided various sporting disciplines for athletes between the ages of 12 to 21. The disciplines were football, netball, basketball, volleyball, cricket and track and field. Other activities such as team-building exercises, board games, physical training, aerobics and lectures were also a part of the programme.
