Opportunity for Dillon, Ganga to comeback—Khan

Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago cricket team Omar Khan says the upcoming matches in Florida will present an ideal opportunity for veterans Mervyn Dillon and Daren Ganga to stake another claim for selection to the national team for the Champions League in South Africa. Both players are making a comeback to the national T20 set-up, as Dillon has been out of the national team for the last two years and Ganga has been prefered for the longer format since his resignation as captain of the team after the regional Super 50 tournament last year.

This came weeks after Ganga skippered the national team at the last Champions League in India in October 2011. According to Khan: “Ganga has been in good form during the trial matches and has shown that he can bat and build an innings of substance in shortest format of the game. He has shown good touch during the trials and looks ready for cricket which is good after a long lay-off. He needs to continue his good showing in order to impress upon the selectors that he belongs on the squad for South Africa.

“Dillon has also been in great touch during the trials and deserves a place on the team. He has been among the wickets in every game and has also shown that he can contribute with the bat lower down the order. He is bowling like he has left the team and this is good for us. Success in Florida and the other warm-up games may well see him playing in the Champions League. Both Dillon and Ganga have their selection in their own hands and they have ample opportunities to cement their places on the squad.”
