The Jeffrey Ross Racing Special

A Moment Of Time needs to be recorded in the Maiden Stakes over eleven furlongs of Kempton polytrack tonight, should be worth the wait. A sizeable declaration has been reduced on account of Moment Of Time being declared; on official ratings, and my time-handicap, this Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old is clear ‘best-in’ from only six rivals. Apart from twice-raced Headline News there simply is no opposition to Moment Of Time, a superbly-bred Rainbow Quest filly which has raced six times; imperative that winning brackets are achieved, for breeding purposes, because there are a ‘million’ choicely-bred maidens out there.

Jimmy Fortune is entrusted tasked with ‘doing the biz’ on a new ‘poly’ surface; the previous one became ‘jaded and tired’ according to reports. Apparently there will be quite a lot of ‘kick-back’ until it beds in, perhaps Jimmy will be best suited making the running and coming back clean; front-running jockeys are never a problem for valets! Kevin Ryan journeys once-raced Veturia a long way from his Yorkshire base for the 13-runner Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs, take the hint.

Veturia caught the eye and achieved a ‘half-decent’ TH mark when a close fourth to Unsinkable over six at Doncaster last month; reports suggest this Distorted Humor filly has thrived and, once again, important that a victory becomes part of her CV. This represents a serious each-way bet because stable-jockey, Philip Makin, also makes the trip for this one booked ride! Charles Hills sends a couple to Ripon, both ridden by 49-year-old Michael Hills. It’s a ‘downer’ but much-improved Linkable and Revelette are fancied, for ‘information purposes!’  I’m probably cutting off my nose to spite my face, making regular reference to, by far, the oldest jockey riding; this is not a game for old ‘uns, he looked completely out of his depth at Goodwood, and I’ll refrain from betting any of his mounts again even though Michael is bound to ride winners. To think Robert Winston is at this evening fixture and won’t have a mount in either race.
