T&T women extend lead in Caribbean golf

T&T’s women remained on course to retaining the George Teale Trophy as they finished six strokes ahead of Puerto Rico on the third and penultimate day of the 56th RBC Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships at the Royal St Kitts Golf Club yesterday. After beginning the day with a nine-stroke advantage, Monifa Sealy (76) and Kelsey Lou Hing (74) combined for a third day tally of 150 to carry the team to 444 overall (152 + 142 + 150). The Puerto Ricans, led by Maria Torres (69) and Paola Robles (78), added 147 to their total to reach 450. Way behind in third and fourth are the Cayman Islands (480) and Jamaica (496). T&T also topped the leaderboard in the Higgs & Higgs Trophy as Super Seniors Fabien Lee Foon and Arjon Samlal (211) shot a brilliant 66, which bumped them five strokes ahead of Puerto Ricans Carlos Matos and Elvin Gonzales Sr (216).
 
 
Despite an improved performance in yesterday’s round, T&T’s men remained in sixth place in the battle for the Hoerman Cup. Talin Rajendranath (74), Jake Delaney (74), Alderray Downes (76) and skipper Deryck Gonzalves (84) combined for a score of 308 to complete the third day on 945 (320 + 317 + 308). In the lead are the Dominican Republic (870), followed by OECS (877), Puerto Rico (889), Jamaica (905) and Barbados (914). Across in the Francis Steele Perkins Cup, Carlos Baynes and Michael Commissiong shot a 77 to drop from third to fifth, though they are just seven strokes behind leaders the Bahamas (218). Meanwhile, Mid Amateurs Clint Alfred and Mahendra Rajkumar gained slight ground in the Ramon Baez Figueroa Trophy, moving up one place to sixth. The pair shot a two under par 69.
