Persistent rain on Saturdayevening forced the abandonment ofthe second T20 cricket clash betweenT&T and Jamaica at the Central
Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale,USA.T&T won the two-match seriesafter beating the Jamaicans by 67 runsin the first game on Friday.The series was organised to celebratethe 50th Anniversary of Independenceof both countries 1-0.
The rain subsided around 7pm, butthe lightning indicators on the groundwere flashing and according to lawhere in Fort Lauderdale, no outdoorsporting activity can occur under suchconditions.At 8pm the umpires called off thegame, handing T&T the series.Prior to the game being called off,manager of the team Omar Khancalled a team meeting informing theplayers of Keshorn Walcott's achievementof winning gold in the javelinevent at the 2012 Olympics in London,and there was raptuous applause fromthe players.
According to Khan they had plannedto go out and beat Jamaica in celebrationif the game was played.Nevertheless, national captain
Denesh Ramdin said the trip wasworth it, and the players were able toget in some much needed practice."The guys were able to work togetherand this was great indeed. They aregelling nicely, and as we look to findthe right combination for the Champions
League, tournaments like theseare important."
Ramdin said it was unfortunate theweather robbed the team of the lastmatch. "We really wanted to performfor the fans up here but we have nocontrol of the elements and just haveto accept it."Chairman of the national selectioncommittee, Dudnath Ramkessoon,said it was a good opportunity forsome of the young players to maketheir claim for selection and althoughthe second game was washed out,there are still a number of matchesto come before they settle on the finalteam.
"We still have a number of gamescoming up back at home and in Barbados,so we will get to see a lot fromthe pool of players before making our final choices."We are however unable to makethe proposed trip to St Lucia to playagainst the Windward Islands but wewill have something in place to keepthe players busy during that time
