T&T's Nku Patrick and Chase Macquan made it to round two of the men's individual matches of the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships which served off yesterday at the Cascadia Squash Club, St Ann's.
Macquan registered a 3-1 win over Jamaica's Chris Binnie in their first round match. Binnie won the first set 11-9 but could not maintain his winning form in the following sets, as he went under 12-10, 11-3, 11-6. T&T's Peter Pirtheesingh unfortunately could not get the better of Shane Slater who clinched a tight 3-2 win in their round one match. The Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States player eventually got the upper hand on Pirtheesingh (5-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8) in a thrilling battle.
In the women's individuals, T&T's Gen Shim and Johanna Augustus failed to get the better of their opponents. Shim faced Guyana's Ashley DeGroot who took an early 11-4 lead in the first set. Shim responded with an 11-3 comeback but, was beaten 11-3 in the following to sets by her Guyanese opponent. Augustus conceded a 3-0 defeat to Jamaican Alyssa Mullings who triumphed 11-3, 11-5, 11-4. Round two matches in the men's individuals continued yesterday after press time with local players Colin Ramasra, Josh Pinard, Kale Wilson, Mandela Patrick and Ryan Abraham set to play. Round two of the women's individuals serves off today with local players Rhea Khan, Faith Gillezeau, Kerrie Sample and Jessica Scott expected to play.
