An ‘Engrossing’ situation

The Jeffrey Ross Racing Special

It’s an “Engrossing” situation finding the right opportunity for a consistent thoroughbred that can't win; Richard Hannon must be particularly vexed with the 3-year-old Tiger Hill gelding in his Marlborough yard, one of eight “decs” in the Maiden Stakes over a mile at Windsor tonight. This will be a ninth attempt for Engrossing and yet again it's by no means clear-cut on my time-handicap which featured Just The Judge as a “special” at Newbury, Saturday; the TH really must be worth following for the next two months or so of the 2012 turf-flat season. Good fast surfaces should be consistently presented by clerks of courses at a time when watering surely wont be considered with heavy Autumn dews guaranteed; it's a lovely time of year, pleasant, comfortable and chock full of quality racing. York stages it's three-day Ebor fixture later this week, eagerly anticipated with Frankel set to run not to mention his full-brother, Noble Mission, a genuine St Leger prospect if indeed he supplements Goodwood gains on the Knavesmire.

More important though is Engrossing, the classic professional special each-way bet with three places on offer, if they all run!
Make sure they do. Earlier Star Of Rohm gets another chance in the Maiden Stakes over six furlonngs of good to soft Thirsk where Michael Bell's charge faces sixteen rivals and is drawn low in stall four. Presumably Ding Dong will instruct PJ McDonald to stay over the far side which usually rides better on an easy surface. Star Of Rohm has also had plenty of chances but has been somewhat over-faced and raced over wrong distances but all signals are down this time and I’m having a bet. In tandem with this afternoon fixture Wolverhampton stages an eight-race polytrack programme and a chance for Grievous Angel to finally go one better in the opening Maiden Stakes over five furlongs, mount of Graham Lee!
