Matthew Lawson must be relishing the prospect of renewing association with Sarangoo at Warwick today; the combination was successful in an apprentice handicap over five furlongs of 'soft' Windsor last month and conditions will be similar for a competitive Selling Stakes over a furlong further tonight. His 5lbs allowance should weigh heavily against likely favourite, Blue Jack, and Desert Strike, a real favourite of Rotherham-born youngster. On three occasions Desert Strike has performed well under Matthew, the multi-raced six-year-old is trained by his guv'nor Charles Hills but he's booked Robert Winston.
The 'politics' of this situation aren't clear but Lawson is definitely on the only serious danger to Blue Jack and with three places on offer this Piccollo filly, winner twice from 27 starts, rates a 'professional 'special' each-way bet.
Half an hour on and Al Janadeirya makes strong appeal in the seven-runner Maiden stakes over an extended five furlongs; what beats Peter Chapple-Hyam's charge will win! Al Janadeirya is clear 'best-in' and mount of championship-chasing Ryan Moore, successful aboard Snow Fairy at Deauville last weekend and determined to beat Richard Hughes in the 2012 title race, whatever you may read.
Moore and Hughes are stable jockeys for Richard Hannon and someone suggested they had 'cut it up' between them, that the latter 'can have it' if the chase is close in a couple of months! Believe that and you will believe that Frankel will be beaten by St Nicholas Abbey in the 'Juddmonte' at York tomorrow! Another betting prospect at the West Midlands course is Richard Fahey-trained Tanghan in the Maiden Stakes over five furlongs. Tanghan made an auspicious debut 67 days ago; it probably stressed the Invincible Spirit colt somewhat, beaten just over a length by subsequent winner, Flyman, at York and wisely Fahey has been patient. Don't oppose and stick to what looks a solid 'patent!'
