For the first time in the SIS In­dus­tri­al Foot­ball League, Yara (Trinidad) Lim­it­ed have se­cured a place in the semi­fi­nal round of the com­pe­ti­tion with a hard fought 1-0 win over PCS Ni­tro­gen on Fri­day in the first game of a dou­ble head­er. Yara came close on sev­er­al oc­ca­sions ear­ly in the match but was not able to fin­ish as PCS Ni­tro­gen kept the pres­sure on. The Ni­tro­gen boys had their fair share of chances as well pass­ing the ball around well even in very dif­fi­cult con­di­tions. Nei­ther team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the first half but it did not take long for things to change though. Sev­en min­utes in­to the sec­ond half Yara went ahead through Kwe­si David who blast­ed a shot from 25 yards out on a counter at­tack that gave the keep­er no chance. Yara held on to their slim lead to claim vic­to­ry over PCS Ni­tro­gen and send them pack­ing in the com­pe­ti­tion. In the oth­er en­counter, it was a pow­er­house show­case as Group A win­ner Plipde­co came up against de­fend­ing cham­pi­on T&TEC.

In their sec­ond meet­ing of the sea­son and their third since the fi­nals last year, Plipde­co, in its typ­i­cal dis­play of pass­ing was as im­pres­sive as al­ways and seemed to al­ways find the spaces. It was Kwe­si Grif­fith, who put Plipde­co ahead late in the first half, with a blast from out­side the area. T&TEC could not find a re­ply and by late in the sec­ond half it seemed all but over. Plipde­co even changed their de­fen­sive game and at­tacked the T&TEC back line and should have put at least two goals away but missed their chances by inch­es. They would rue these miss­es as T&TEC's de­ter­mi­na­tion came to the fore. Five min­utes be­fore the fi­nal whis­tle the equalis­er came off a well placed throw-in that was mis­han­dled by the keep­er and found the net. Sud­den death penal­ty kicks would then de­cide the win­ner and T&TEC shun through. An ex­cel­lent save from T&TEC's keep­er Ken Subero gave them the ad­van­tage and T&TEC was able to score their kick to send their play­ers and sup­port­ers in­to a fren­zy with a come from be­hind win over Plipde­co.
