For the first time in the SIS Industrial Football League, Yara (Trinidad) Limited have secured a place in the semifinal round of the competition with a hard fought 1-0 win over PCS Nitrogen on Friday in the first game of a double header. Yara came close on several occasions early in the match but was not able to finish as PCS Nitrogen kept the pressure on. The Nitrogen boys had their fair share of chances as well passing the ball around well even in very difficult conditions. Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the first half but it did not take long for things to change though. Seven minutes into the second half Yara went ahead through Kwesi David who blasted a shot from 25 yards out on a counter attack that gave the keeper no chance. Yara held on to their slim lead to claim victory over PCS Nitrogen and send them packing in the competition. In the other encounter, it was a powerhouse showcase as Group A winner Plipdeco came up against defending champion T&TEC.
In their second meeting of the season and their third since the finals last year, Plipdeco, in its typical display of passing was as impressive as always and seemed to always find the spaces. It was Kwesi Griffith, who put Plipdeco ahead late in the first half, with a blast from outside the area. T&TEC could not find a reply and by late in the second half it seemed all but over. Plipdeco even changed their defensive game and attacked the T&TEC back line and should have put at least two goals away but missed their chances by inches. They would rue these misses as T&TEC's determination came to the fore. Five minutes before the final whistle the equaliser came off a well placed throw-in that was mishandled by the keeper and found the net. Sudden death penalty kicks would then decide the winner and T&TEC shun through. An excellent save from T&TEC's keeper Ken Subero gave them the advantage and T&TEC was able to score their kick to send their players and supporters into a frenzy with a come from behind win over Plipdeco.
