Anjali Ramhit (Suriname) and Patrick Sydow (Aruba) topped the round robin phase of the Caribbean Under 13 tennis which ended at the Shaw Park Courts, Scarborough, on Tuesday. Ramhit played unbeaten in the girls division with two wins from two matches in Group 3 to finish ahead of two other players who also were unbeaten. Ramhit defeated local girl Daynelle Des Vignes 4-0, 4-0 and Under 14 main draw champion Jamie Lewis of Barbados 4-0, 4-1. Her Suriname compatriot Anouk Ma-Ajong, Barbadian Ilana Blackwood and Evelyanne Kelly (Aruba) also played unbeaten coming out victorious in their matches but Ramhit finished ahead with a games coefficient of 7.5 by virtue of her losing less games in her victories, with Blackwood behind on 4.5 and Ma-Ajong and Kelly both on 4.
Blackwood topped Group 1 getting by Grenada’s Cavia Belfon 4-2, 4-1 and then Guyanese hard-hitting Afruica Gentle 4-2, 3-5 (10-2). Ma-Ajong and Kelly only had one opponent in the group phase, with Ma-Ajong prevailing over T&T’s Emma Davis 4-0, 4-0 in Group 2 and Kelly also beating Meggan Willian (St. Lucia) 4-0, 4-0. In boys’ action, Sydow came out on top, edging four other unbeaten players. The Aruban dispatched Kobe James (T&T) 4-2, 5-4 and Cordell Williams Jr. (Antigua and Barbuda) 4-0, 4-0 to take Group 4 and top the overall standing with the best of the sets and games win/loss ratio.
Grenada’s Ukpioronfo Oronfo Ikolo, home-town boys Joshua Arnold, Jean Phillipe Murray (St. Lucia) and Luke Stirling (Bermuda) all won their matches with Ikolo taking Group 2, with wins over T&T’s Scott Hackshaw (4-2, 4-1) and Khalid Gobin of Guyana (4-1, 4-0) to finish on 6. Arnold got past Justice Christopher (Antigua and Barbuda) 4-2, 5-3 and Serrio Yannick Finies of Bonaire (4,1 4-1) to capture Group 3 while Stirling led Group 6 with triumphs over Adam Scott of T&T (2-4, 4-0, 5-4) and Adriel Bousquet of St Lucia (4-0, 4-1).
