Top seeds Anjali Ramhit (Suriname) and Patrick Sydow (Aruba), eased into the singles semifinals on third day of action on Wednesday at the 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships at the Shaw Park Courts. Ramhit easily beat Afruica Gentle (Guyana) 6-0, 6-0 while second seed Ilana Blackwood (Barbados) dismissed Megan Williams (St Lucia) 6-0, 6-1. Ramhit will play Blackwood's team-mate Jamie Lewis, who overcame host player Emma Davis in three sets. Davis took the first set 6-1, but Lewis rallied to take a close second set 7-6 (6), before surviving a long third set winning super tie breaker 19-17. Blackwood will face Suriname's Anouk Ma-Ajong who whipped Evelyanne Kelly (Aruba) 6-0, 6-2.
In the boys's singles, top rated Sydow got by Shivar Ramkalup (Suriname) 6-3, 6-3 and will face fourth seed Jean-Phillipe Murray (St Lucia) for a place in the boys singles finals. Murray overcame Brandon Jones (Bermuda) 6-3, 6-2. Second seed Ukpioronfo Oronfo Ikolo battled past Cordell Williams Jr. (Antigua and Barbuda) 6-4, 6-1 to set up a semifinal match up with number three player, Joshua Arnold (T&T) who beat Luke Stirling (Bermuda) 6-2, 6-4. The boys second and fourth seed double teams were knocked out at the quarter final stage . The number two ranked Bermudan pair of Brandon Jones and Luke Stirling fell to the host players Kobe James and Joshua Arnold who prevailed 6-4, 3-6 (10-6) in the first of four quarter final matches. Fourth seeds Shaivar Ramkalup (Suriname) and Serrio Yannick Finies (Bonaire) were beaten by the Aruban duo of Patrick Sydow and Kevin Yarzagaray who won 6-1, 6-3. The Arubans had earlier beaten the Antigua and Barbuda team of Justice Christopher and Cordell Williams Jr. 6-1, 6-3 in the second round.
Top seeds, Grenada's Mickel Alexander and Ukpioronfo Oronfo Ikolo overcame the Barbadian/Trinbago combination of Gabriel Taylor and Adam Scott 6-3, 4-6 (10-6) and faced the Arubans in the first semifinals. Arnold and James came up against the three seeds St. Lucians Adriel Bousquet and Jean Phillipe Murray who whipped Khalid Gobin and Keeson Reece of Guyana 6-0, 6-2. The semifinals was contested late yesterday. In the boys singles consolation action, Kobe James (Trinidad and Tobago) beat Keshon Reece (Guyana) 6-2, 6-4 while second seed Justice Christopher (Antigua and Barbuda) eased past Adam Scottt (Trinidad and Tobago) 6-1, 6-2. Kevin Yarzagaray (Aruba) triumphed over Khalid Gobin (Guyana) 6-0, 6-1. James will play top seed Gabriel Taylor (Barbados) while Christopher will come against Yarazagaray. The Girls Singles and Doubles Semifinals will also be staged on Thursday. The finals are set for Friday 31 August with following day set a the reserve day.
