Shanntol Ince clocked 1:22.14 seconds in the heat one of the Women's 100-metres backstroke-S9 event but her time was not good enough for her to advance to the final at the Paralympic Games in London, England yesterday. It was the second straight day that the local swimmer dived into the pool at the Aquatics Centre but not getting the result she desired. On Thursday morning, she touched the wall in 1:25.50 in the Women's 100m butterfly-S9 to place sixth in in the first of two heats but her time again was not quick enough to advance to the final. Natalie du Toit of South Africa took gold in that event in a time of 1.09.30, claiming the 11th gold medal of her glittering Paralympic career of her third successive Games.
Sarai Gascon of Spain copped the silver while American Elizabeth Stone bagged the bronze. London 2012 will mark the final chapter for Du Toit, who will bow out of competition after the Paralympics. Ince's final event will be the 400m freestyle-S9 with the heats carded for Tuesday from 5.19 (T&T time). Her teammate Ronald Carlos Greene will get his first taste of action tomorrow in the Men's Discus Throw-F11 final from 3.45 pm (T&T time)at Olympic Stadium. The following day he will return to the stadium to compete in the Men's Shot Put F11/12 at 5 am (T&T time).
