Hosts T&T ended the week long Caribbean 13 and Under Development Tennis Championships in sixth spot at the Shaw Park, Courts in Scarborough on Friday. The six-member team finished with 16 points, behind Suriname who took top spot with 34 points. Aruba was second on 28 points while Grenada, Barbados and St Lucia tied for third with 19 points. T&T's top performer was Joshua Arnold who was fourth in the boys singles, losing the 3rd/4th place play off to Jean-Philipe Murray of St Lucia (6-2, 6-0).
Emma Davis was seventh in the girls singles after she beat Meggan Williams (St Lucia) 6-2, 6-2. Daynelle Des Vignes took ninth spot getting over Cavia Belfon (Grenada) 6-1, 6-3. Among the boys, Scott Hackshaw was 12th, Kobe James 15th and Adam Scott 16th. Arnold and James reached the boys doubles semifinals before losing out to the St Lucian pair of Jean Philippe Murray and Adriel Bousquet 3-6, 3-6. Leading the way for Suriname were Anjali Ramhit and Anouk Ma-Ajong.
Ramhit took the girls singles titles with Ma-Ajong finishing in third. The two then combined to take the doubles crown. Aruba relied on Patrick Sydow and Kevin Yarzagaray. Sydow secured the boys singles trophy and then teamed up with Yarzagaray to snap up the double crowns. Speaking after the tournament, T&T?coach Kyle Hannays said he was pleased with the performance of the local players. "The guys performed well. The tournament is a development one. They learnt a lot. I saw confidence growing. I think they gave a good account of themselves and they represented T&T."
