ARC  DAY 32 FEATURE

Following on the heels of last Friday’s Neal & Massy overwhelmingly successful Independence race day, the two-year-olds will take centre stage on Day 32 of the Arima Race Club’s 2012 racing season, Saturday September 8, 2012. The annual renewal of the Nursery Stakes to be run over 1000 metres for a purse of $1,000,000.00 has attracted a field of nine juveniles including Safra Tilah, winner of the lone two-year-old race for the year on Emancipation Day, Wednesday August 1, 2012. Owned by GNT Racing and trained by Glenn Mendez the bay daughter of Cougar Cat out of the Glitterman mare Dixie Glitter was most impressive when scoring by 2 ½ lengths over Secret Circle in a new track record time of 48.0 seconds for 800 metres under the guidance of veteran reinsman Ricky Jadoo.

She has only one recorded workout since that race, an 800 metres spin on September 3, 2012 clocked in an easy 51.1 seconds, but her connections are confident that she will keep her unbeaten record intact. She will renew rivalry with Kiss The Sky, 5th beaten 7 ¼ lengths on August 1, and Something Black, 6th beaten ten lengths in the same race, both conditioned by Rohit Dube’. The duo have been very active on the exercise track since that race but still has a lot to find to turn the tables on the track record breaker although they will meet her on more favourable weight terms.

Six babies will be making their first race course appearance in the afternoon and they are, After the Books, trained by Douglas Bennett with Brian Harding in the saddle; Always Ready and Star Dreamer, both Jamaican bred from the stables of Harold Chadee with Nicholas Patrick and Kiran Razack respectively doing the duties; Black Pepper, taking orders from Glen Mohammed with apprentice Kerron Khelawan astride and the Shaffique Khan owned and trained pair of Readyforstanley and Cat Whiskers with Ronald Ali and Champion Jockey Brian Boodramsingh respectively getting the call.

Of the newcomers Star Dreamer and Afterthebooks have been taken to task by their respective trainers and if the favourite is to be upset it may come from this pair. Although the day hasn’t got the hype and the expected atmosphere of the Independence Day race programme there is still a lot in store for the fans. The Pick – 6 has a single winner bonus of $15,956.16 and a carryover of $7,725.00; the Pick - 4 has a guaranteed pool of $5,000.00 and a carryover of $4,203.00 and the Triple (Pick – 3) has a carryover of $2,193.75.
