Bangladesh flew to the top of the standings in the All Sports Promotions T20 Extravaganza last evening, when they easily overcame Asian neighbours Afghanistan by eight wickets on day two action at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair. Afghanistan sent in to bat was restricted to 99 for five in 15 overs, as rain prevented an early start to the match, robbing the match of ten overs. Bangladesh then romped to victory at 100 for two in 14.2 overs with the openers Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful belting the ball all around the park. Iqbal was his usual very aggressive self scoring 36 before he fell with the score at 76 in over number 12. He contribution of 36 came off 33 balls with two fours and three sixes.
At the fall of his wicket, Afghanistan quickly removed Ziaur Naib but Mohammad Ashraful remained unbeaten on 47 to take his team home. He faced 44 balls and struck four fours and a six. Earlier, Bangladesh slow bowlers kept a tight reign on proceedings and was able to keep the Afghanistan batsmen in check. Busy opener Mohammad Shahzad gave the small crowd the early entertainment and slashed his way to 29 off 24 balls with four fours. Wickets fell regularly around him and towards the end the impressive Mohammad Nabi who scored 57 against T&T, knocked a valuable 26 not out off 20 balls with two fours to ensure a fighting total. The world’s top Test all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was the best bowler for Bangladesh and finished with two for 12 off three overs, while Elias Sunny took one for eight from three and Abdur Razack took one for 16 off three as well.
