Safra Tilah romps in Nursery Stakes

The Glenn Mendez trained juvenile Safra Tilah turned the valuable Nursery Stakes into a procession yesterday, streaking home by eight longish looking lengths in the feature $100,000 purse over 1,000 metres at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

Safra Tilah which registered a record time on her first run  registered what may be a juvenile record when she posted the time of 1:00.78 for the trip. The GNT-owned bay filly with Ricky Jadoo astride was expected to score her second win from as many starts and she did not disappoint, winning  in style of a champion. Safra Tilah continued the winning streak of Mendez. The former champion trainer won the feature event on the Neal & Massy Independence Day card with Just Call Me Roger. Sent off as the 2-5 favourite by punters, Safra Tilah never gave her backers any cause to worry.

 

Jadoo had her tracking the pace set by Something Black before giving the daughter of Cougar Cat out of Dixie Glitter an inch of rein at the far turn. Safra Tilah blew past her rivals to run out a very impressive winner. Afterthebook stayed on well to be second with the well backed Star Dreamer in third. Jadoo’s biggest problem was pulling up the filly, which looks certain to be one of the best juvenile seen at the centralised venue. Derby candidate One For The Road had a positive Derby 'prep' when winning the final event over 1,750 metres. Riding honours for the day were shared between Jadoo and Nigel Flavenney, who both had two winners. Training honours for the day were shared between former champion trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj and Derick Mosca, who saddled two winners each. The most successful owner again this week was Juan Navarro who had three winners. Racing continues next Saturday.
