Zonal and InterCol champion St Anthony’s College, rebounded from its goalless draw in the last outing by securing all three points with a 2-0 victory over Trinity College, at St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings, yesterday. A goal each in the opening five minutes and in the dying seconds from Xavier Rajpaul and Kadeem Corbin, respectively, put St Anthony’s by itself on top of the seven-team standings with seven points from three matches. It was only three days prior that St Anthony’s had its 20-match winning streak come to an end after being held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Diego Martin North Secondary. The “Tigers” may have had company at the top had it not been for a 0-0 stalemate in the other match between St Mary’s College and East Mucurapo at Fatima Ground. The draw put Mucurapo on five points from three matches while St Mary’s went to four. Fatima College also rebounded from its opening day loss to East Mucurapo with its second straight 1-0 win, this time over QRC. Reliable forward Arvin Prescod secured all three points with a first half strike, to put Fatima in second position with six points. Diego Martin North was on a bye.

Francois brace puts Arima on top
Jomal Francois scored a pair of goals as Arima North moved three points clear at the top of the East Zone with a 2-1 triumph over El Dorado West Secondary at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar. Francois fired Arima North in the lead as early as the third minute but Kerdel Chairman scored from the penalty-spot in the 33rd minute for both teams to go into the interval 1-1. Five minutes into the second-half Francois netted his second of the match and eventual game winner as the “Dial Dynamos” improved to seven points from three matches, three clear of defending champions El Dorado East and San Juan North. San Juan North used goals from Brent Sam and Andel Andrews to secure a 2-0 shut-out of Trinity East, at its Bourg Mulatresse Ground while host St Augustine Secondary needed a 90th minute own-goal to salvage a 1-1 with Toco, which went ahead through Kern Carabello in the 27th minute. It was a bitter ending for Toco whose Dwight Figaro suffered a broken leg during the contest.

Eneau, Holder leads Caps’ 8-1 mauling
Joshua Eneau and Shaquille Holder scored beaver-tricks, as Carapichaima followed up its 7-0 hammering of Tabaquite with an 8-1 come-from-behind mauling of Gasparillo at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre to stay perfect in the Central Zone. Kemron Felix opened the scoring for Gasparillo in the tenth minute after which Carapichaima took charges led by Eneau, who netted in the 17th, 21st and 44th for a first-half hat-trick while Holder found the target in the 35th minute for a 4-1 lead at the half. Holder then added three more in the second-half in the 54th, 78th and 80th, and Eneau, the other in the 58th to complete the scoring as Carapichaima pushed its points tally to maximum six points.
Presentation picked up its first win, 2-0 over Tabaquite with second-half goals from Suraj Ramcharan and Brandon Balladin to move into second with four points, the same as Chaguanas North which blanked Couva West 3-0 with David Maloney, Ainsley County and Deon O’Garro all on target.
