National junior golfer Ysabelle Lawrence earned her first win in a Ladies Open tournament over the weekend at the Agostini Insurance Brokers Limited Ladies Open at the St Andrew’s Golf Club in Moka, Maraval. Lawrence began the second day of play in the “A” flight division, nine strokes ahead of her nearest competitor after finishing day one with a two over par 74. She increased that lead by three after finishing the front nine at level par.

A late charge by Christina Ferreira on the back nine brought her within three shots of the lead to finish the first tournament of the season at three shots back of Lawrence. Lawrence capped her day with 82 (156) with Ferreira on 77 to finish with a two day total of 159. In the “B” flight, another junior golfer Ana Ferreira shot a consistent two day total of 173 (86-87) to lead Jennifer Grainger at 185, and Angela Hodgkinson at 186 to also clinch her first win in a ladies’ tournament. Not to be outshone, Sabrina Chan rounded off Winner’s Circle in the “C” Flight with a final two day total of 195 (104-91) over Brenda Clarke and fellow junior Karina Matabadal.

The ladies finished the two day tournament with a sumptuous meal and prize-giving ceremony attended by Marc Henderson of Agostini Insurance Brokers Limited. Henderson congratulated all golfers for making the tournament a special one and committed to continuing to support the Ladies Open in 2013. Angela Hodgkinson, ladies captain, thanked AIB for its  tremendous support over the years in making this annual tournament possible. The event is one of only two tournaments on the golfing calendar exclusively for ladies.
