Top-ranked locally-based player Curtis Humphreys will be going after his fourth title of the season on the local circuit when he competes in TEK Engineering Tobago Open at the Scarborough Secondary School, Tobago, from 9.30 am tomorrow. So far this season, Humphreys of the University of T&T has captured the Classified A-1 crown, Silver Bowl and Solo National Championship and starts as a favourite when the action serves off today. However, Humphreys will have it all his way as he is expected to face a very competitive field led by former Caribbean champion Kevin Farley, a winner in 2010, teenagers Aaron Wilson and Arun Roopnarine, Kyle Borneo, two-time Caribbean champion Lionel Darceuil, Everton Sorzano, Terrel Abbott, Andrew Alexander, Kenwin Small, Andrew Edwards, Terry Corbin and Anson Wellington as they go after the title left vacant by last year's winner, Anthony "Sandfly" Brown.
In August, Roopnarine combined with Humphreys, Kyle Borneo and France-based Dexter St Louis to win men's team gold at the Senior Caribbean Championship. In the women's competition, a new champion will also be crowned, as Guyana's Trenace Lowe will not defend her title won by beating Catherine Spicer in the final last year. In Lowe's absence, newly-crowned national women's singles champion Brittany Joseph, 14; 2010 winner Catherine Spicer in the absence of nine-time national champion, Aleena Edwards, her mother, Verna Edwards, and, Ashley Quashie. Today, the age-group events-Under-11, U-13, U-15, U-18 and U-21-will take place from 9.30 am.
