Rondel Sorillo went to 2012 Olympics Games in London England with high hopes of advancing to the men's 200m finals. However, he says a change in his footwear might have been responsible for his failure to fullfil his expectations.
The  Point Fortin resident has been improving steadily over the years since advancing to the quarterfinals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany, he reached the semifinals. He qualified for  last year’s Worlds in Deagu, South Korea, after taking his third national  title in a personal best time of 20.16. In Daegu he booked a spot in the finals where he finished a creditable seventh. At the National Championships in June earlier this year the Kentucky, USA-based athlete blazed to third in the men’s 100m in personal best clocking of  10.03 , lowering his previous  pb of 10.11 set in semifinals earlier in the day.

He then collected his fourth national half-lap title  in 20.48 and looked ready to exploded in London as he qualified to run in both sprints. In the English capital, he finished fifth in the opening round heats in 20.76 and was eliminated. Speaking recently, Sorillo said he was not happy with his London efforts.  “I was disappointed. However, I am looking forward to the 2016 Games (in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil).” The 2010 NCAA champion listed Keshorn Walcott’s gold medal performance as his highlight of the Games. “I was at the warm-up track when he won and saw it on the screen.  His reaction when he realised he won said it all. I knew he had the potential to do it but at the same time it was shocking.”
